The hotel was lovely and the food gorgeous. Our only disappointment was the cocktail on arrival. Please make sure you t&c's match the hotel's. Our t&c's stated up until 5pm to redeem the cocktail but the hotel said theirs stated up until 4.30pm. The hotel nearly didn't honour it especially after driving for 4 hours to get there. Thankfully they did honour it. It just wasn't the best start but with a lovely room, fantastic food and surroundings it was soon forgotten about.
Smooth transaction! Marco himself and his daughter were around and we met with them - that was the highlight! They were so lovely and very down to earth. The Rudloe was a lovely experience, with its low lighting inside and outside - very romantic. The food was lush as expected! All and all a very memorable experience apart from a chance encounter with one particular member of staff who perhaps need some training on customer service - communication skill is everything!
Unique and beautiful setting for a lovely weekend away. We visited as a couple and we're instantly enchanted on arrival. The house is visually spectacular inside and out. The grounds present spectacular views for a most pleasant stroll and the three lounges are a real privilege to recline in. It's quite unreal to be able to freely recline in exquisitely furnished and decorated surroundings. There is high art everywhere for you to enjoy, Terry O'Neil, Bailey, Calder, Mouseman all around you. The food is delicious of course and the restaurant is such a romantic softly lit place to recline, it's a real dream. Intimacy is the theme throughout, a real treat.
Beautiful room that we stayed in and the gardens were stunning with Acer trees everywhere. The restaurant was lovely and our food was divine although the waiter wasn't very friendly and did not check back or asked us if wed enjoyed our meal. The rice pudding wasn't cooked enough and if we'd read the cocktail voucher or receptionist had told us that we only had 1 hour to enjoy a free cocktail. So we missed that. When we checked out nobody asked if we'd enjoyed our stay and didn't even get a thank you especially as we thanked them. Our breakfast waiter was excellent along with our breakfast. Thank you.
Good Food
Bonkers place really loved it. Only bad point is all the additional charges. Main meal understood that some meals might have extra charge but the veg was all extra
We arrived to be greeted by a lovely receptionist who showed us our room which was lovely . Walked around the grounds which again were amazing and well maintained . Gin cocktail before going into the restaurant. The old guy there was very in attentive slightly rude but this was over come by the pleasant waitress that was more than helpful and chatty . We were lucky enough to meet Marco who was funny and so friendly had a few pictures with him . Breakfast was disappointing though no sausages and full English was an extra . However the overall experience was great. We would love to stay again .
Lovely building, bedroom was spacious and comfortable. When we arrived, reception was closed so we spent a while trying to find someone to check us in. The welcome was slightly under whelming and we were not given any information about the hotel. Food ewas very good, the service needs improving. Please be aware that that the free cocktail is only valid between 2pm and 5pm so we ended up spending £30 on cocktails that we thought were free. Overall, it is good value for the money but improvements in the service at the hotel asre needed.
A truly unique experience, a great venue for a night, amazing food and the manager was a very nice chap. Definitely good value for money if you want a peaceful night in a unique setting.
Food good. Room needed a mirror near power point to use hairdryer. Intriguing place, understand the lean to Gothic and macabre, but cosier areas would I’m sure maximise income, in bar area for instance. A n all weather outside area to take in fabulous valley views would be nice. Additional building needs to be more attractive and less utilitarian.
Externally the main house looks beautiful. Inside smells musty and very mixed decor etc but each to their own. Booked main room so mid range. No shower no tv and no tea or coffee in room. Cocktail was gin and tonic. 3 course meal was ok, nothing special to be honest. The lighting in whole place so dim that it was hard to focus on anything and we ended up with headaches ! The bar man was unbelievably rude, didn’t say a word both times we went to the bar other than ‘room number’, not a smile or any engagement at all. He was slightly better when serving meal later on. Breakfast was nice and chef/ server very pleasant.
We arrived to find no directions to reception or hotel entrance, the building is imposing.we found our way and we're allocated a room in another building more modern and just a short walk away from main house, room was fine and only my partner was put off by stuffed magpies above the wardrobe and also we found the tv did not work and after the electric kept tripping out.We were moved to another room. The dinner does not include cocktails we were told they are only available between 2 and 5pm also the menu was limited and sides were £5 extremely each plus the steak was a £10 extra.cheapest wine was £45 and the wine waiter just poured it straight out without a taste,we were told by this trainer footed waiter that they only do tastes on wine over £100. Orange juice was£5 and then £2 service charge each Breakfast was equally extra charges of £7.50 for full English and kippers and orange juice were extras.all in all the woucher experiences sounds good but be very careful as it will work out very expensive with poor service. The Marco food was not up to his culinary reputation although his art collection is very interesting but a bit macarb.in conclusion don't go because I won't be back.
Dark and dreary with ivy covering all of the windows. Less than friendly greeting from Marco's son when we asked him if we were in the right place as no signage at all. We felt very very uncomfortable. Cocktail was a gin and tonic served by a less than happy waiter. We checked out the room and was confronted with a cabinet full of dead ravens at the bottom of the bed. We left within 30 mins and after reading the google reviews, totally understand why others have left similar reviews. It's Marco's house and we felt like unwelcome guests.
Television didn’t work. Cover charge at evening meal and breakfast. Drinks very expensive. The bill was more than the Wowcher cost.
Unique hotel with lots of things that will make this a pleasant stay for all. Main thing to look out for are the supplements was shocked to have to pay extra for chips with a steak dinner. Just a suggestion maybe up the price a little and include everything.
